ophelia79's Diaryland Diary np: pedro the lion - "it's hard to find a friend"i love this cd. it reminds me of driving through downtown springfield, wind through our hair, happy simply because of who was sitting next to me. ah, yes. that was then. ***** this really cute little kitty has adopted us. he's such a dark brown that he's almost black, with lovely green eyes. he's the friendliest thing, and he gave me a little kiss today on my cheek when i was getting out of my car from work. SO. the joy electric show last night. i had to go shopping for jeff and jennifer's wedding present, and some other things. left here at six. thought i'd probably be a little late to the show, but that was no big deal, because the opening bands at The Door usually suck. well, all of my errands went incredibly quick, and i ended up in Deep Ellum at 7:20. this is including the 50 minutes of driving time. the show didn't start until 8:30. so i went to Good Records. for those of you wondering whether or not i would buy the new pedro, i did. i also bought the new damien jurado/gathered in song cd, and "it's hard to find a friend" which, twice stolen from me, is just about my favorite cd. i am guarding this copy with my life. i was tempted to buy a good many other things, including the new jon spencer blues explosion (you get free plastic fangs with it!), and goldfrapp's "felt mountain". but i have to remind myself that i am poor. or will be when i go back to school in the fall. the guy at the cash register was kind of flirting with me, and as i had time to kill, i stayed there and talked to him for a bit. i think that he's one of the guys from the choir in The Polyphonic Spree. in fact, i think he's the one conrad and i made so much fun of during the show back in august, because he looked so terribly bored and kept smoking in the middle of songs rather than singing. i guess when you're in a band with 20+ other people, you can get away with that. still only wasted 20 minutes there. drove by The Door. looked empty. took myself out to eat at Cafe Brazil. called jamie from there, and she said that she and mindy were on their way. finished dinner and went back up to The Door. still didn't see anybody, so i took a seat at a table near the back. jamie and mindy, it turns out, had walked down to Cafe Brazil to look for me, along with the hastings guy (second entry down). we've known for some time that this boy's name is actually justin. anyhow, the first band was done playing, and i was glad, because they were total goldfrapp wannabes and terrible. so the second band started playing. Goat Explosion. ohmyword! they could have been absolutely phenomenal, and we would never have noticed, because the guy singing was absolutely molesting the microphone. he had this whole, languid, can barely stand up, aspiring super model thing going on while singing. only lee bozeman from luxury can get away with that...and i guess the fact that they both looked anorexic in their muscle tees didn't help. the other guy, the one on the synths, had this whole rigid german infantry thing going on. we were laughing SO HARD. justin was about to die, because he just came to bootleg The Gold, and then he was out of there. somewhere in the middle of this band's set conrad, brad, and billy show up. they went up to the balcony after hanging with us for a little bit. they walked outside when The Gold, or rather just Todd Gilliland on stage with an acoustic guitar, started and justin moved up to the balcony to record. it was good show, and Todd had much better stage presence than the last time we saw him. plus, he said some pretty awesome stuff about music in relation to politics and the modern church. i won't get into that quite now, because i'm still thinking it all over. Joy Electric was awesome. It was just Ronnie Martin, as Jeff Cloud is now touring with Starflyer 59, and Todd Gilliland on drums. there were some pretty goofy people at the show, though. i mean some incredibly poor dancers. some really tall guy gave me a pretty good laugh, because he was standing no where in front of me, but came and asked me if he was in my way???. please, you'll need a better reason than that to talk to me... ha. just kidding. i'm no snob. i just thought it was funny. odd people hitting on me... a boost to the old self confidence, not that i need it.... it was really cool because at the end ronnie martin got on drums, and todd was on the synths... afterwards i stayed to talk to billy and brad for a while. i miss those guys, and sitting around joking with them instead of actually practicing during band practice. they should have brought their wives! but jerri is having a pretty rough pregnancy, and jennifer was pretty tired, billy said. so anyhow, yeah, i had a blast last night. mainly because it was fun hanging with the guys. except for conrad, who pretty well ignores me these days when were in public. because i'm not in love with anymore, blah blah blah, poor baby. not my fault he can't make up his mind. and i didn't see anyone hitting on him last night. ha ha. just kidding. kind of. so, wow, long entry. once again, bonus points for those of you who made it this far. there is a storm moving in...
